Breakfast Workshop F

Clinical Testing in Veterinary OA

Timeslot: Sunday, April 30, 2017 - 7:30am to 8:30am

Osteoarthritis occurs in 20% of adult dogs and 80% of dogs greater than 8 years of age. While a number of induced OA models exist for research studies, they have limitations that vary with each model. Appropriately conducted clinical studies in pet dogs with naturally occurring OA offer greater relevance to the clinical condition. This session will discuss clinical assessment of OA in dogs, including veterinarian examination, owner scales, and objective measures such as ground reaction forces and kinematics. Challenges, such as the caregiver placebo effect, also will be addressed.
