Redox Regulation of Cell Signaling in Chondrocytes

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) serve as second messengers in intracellular signaling pathways activated by a diverse set of stimuli including growth factors, cytokines and matrix fragments. While physiologic levels of ROS serve to regulate cell signaling, excessive levels lead to oxidative stress which disrupts physiologic signaling and contributes to age-related diseases including osteoarthritis.
