Plenary Session 1 - Hand OA
Is Retinoic Acid a Target in Hand OA?
Timeslot: Thursday, April 27, 2017 - 2:00pm to 2:30pm
Since the discovery of the ALDH1A2 gene as a major susceptibility gene for hand OA, further data on this relationship have emerged. The additive effect of being homozygous for the risk allele on gene expression and the severity of hand OA will be illustrated.
Retinoic acid derivatives are widely used in the pharmaceutical industry and there is experimental evidence that they can affect the osteoarthritis process. The possibility of drug development and possible means of application will be discussed.
